Howard Barber

Howard Barber, age 89, of Grants Pass, died Monday, March 5, 2012 at Fair View Transitional Health Center.

A viewing will be from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 12, 2012 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center. Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

He was born Howard Francis Barber on October 11, 1922 in Thurman, Colorado to Ralph & Nora Barber. In 1942 he graduated from Lewis Palmer High School in Monument, Colorado. On Easter Sunday 1942 in Colorado Springs, Colorado he married Eleanor Wissler. For six months he trained in the Signal Corps of the United States Army in Greeley, Colorado. At that time, he and Eleanor moved to Washington D.C. before being transferred to Steamboat Springs, Colorado where they started their family. Eventually they settled near Colorado Springs. Howard worked at Flying Horse Ranch and then Western Horseman Magazine as a subscription fulfillment manager until his retirement. In 1978 the couple moved to Selma, Oregon where they lived until serving a church mission in Las Vegas, Nevada. They later served in the Portland, Oregon Temple; lived in Provo, Utah for several years; and then Mesa, Arizona. In 2003 they moved from Mesa, Arizona to Grants Pass, Oregon.

Howard was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Redwood Ward.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Barber of Central Point, Oregon, Donald Barber of Booneville, Iowa, and Clifford Barber of Mesa, Arizona; two daughters, Sharry Eastman of Grants Pass, Oregon and Melanie Weeks of Rexburg, Idaho; 32 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Barber and three brothers.
