Holly Lee Landaker

July 24, 1925 — July 1, 2008

Holly Lee Hanseth Landaker, 82, of Kerby, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at her home.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

She was born on July 24, 1925 in Crescent City, California to Norman and Helen (Christensen) Hanseth. She lived in Selma with her grandparents Antone and May Hanseth on Crooks Creek and attended Dryden School. During World War II she was employed by the U.S. Navy as a civilian clerical worker and later worked in the recruiting office in Grants Pass. In 1947 she married Mel Landaker, who preceded her in death on March 13, 1988. She owned and operated Mildred’s Caf in Kerby for many years. During the 1950’s & 1960’s she and her husband were partners in a logging company and traveled up and down the west coast and central California.

She was a lifetime member of IVHS Alumni Association and a Lion’s Club supporter. She did volunteer work for the Lions Club of Cave Junction and worked at the Illinois Valley Information Center for many years.

She loved the outdoors and collected rocks from everywhere. She was proud of her pioneer heritage, since both sets of her grandparents immigrated to Oregon in the early 1800’s by ship around the horn and by wagon train from the east.

Survivors include her daughter, Jenny Lee Biggs of Kerby; four grandchildren, John Winslow of Reno, Nevada; JoAnn Woelfle of Seaside; Joseph Winslow of Cave Junction; and Steven Biggs of Kerby; five great-grandchildren; and her niece Desire Martin of Chino Valley, Arizona.

In addition to her husband, Melvin W. Landaker, she was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Jeannie Tyau.
