Herbert Russell "Herb" Higgins

Herbert Russell “Herb” Higgins, age 81, of Cave Junction, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010 at his home.

No services are planned. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Herb arrived in this world November 26, 1928 in Atlanta, Georgia. From 1950 to 1956 he served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War as a Marine Sergeant. Forty-five years ago he moved to Illinois Valley where his life prospered. He owned and operated his own mobile home business off of Rocky Dale Road. He bought property and built his log cabin home along the Illinois River at the edge of town. Herb was an upstanding citizen in his community and became the Lions Club’s second Vice President from 1977 to 1978 and later became the town’s mayor. He loved his town and the people in it and say’s he lived a full and rich life. In 1949 he married Juanita Jean who preceded him in death. In 1962 he married Beulah who also preceded him in death.

Herb thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing and the company of women.

He is survived by a sister, Bea; a brother, Roscoe; a daughter, Vicky; grandson, Michael; a granddaughter, Mariah and two great-grandchildren, Lydia Jean and Zack.

He was a good man and will be greatly missed. Look out Lord, here he comes!
