Herbert Clement Rudd Jr., age 82, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Three Rivers Medical Center.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2412 Williams Highway. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Herbert was born January 1, 1931 in Forrest, Illinois to Herbert C. Rudd Sr. & Gertrude Rudd. He moved to Grants Pass in 1938. In 1948 he graduated from Grants Pass High School. His first job was at his dad’s Texaco on 6th and B Street. Shortly after graduating he went to work for Spaulding Lumber and except for a two year stint in the United States Army serving in Korea, he worked there for all of his working life, retiring at the age of 65. On December 7, 1951 he married Marvel Jean Shackelford. Early in their life together Herb and Marvel bought a small piece of property and Herb built a home for them that they were still living in at the time of his passing. Herb and Marvel have been married 62 years. They loved to travel and made many trips to Hawaii as well as vacations to Mexico, Spain and Morocco.
Herb was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, South Congregation since 1956 – 57 years.
His hobbies included computers and all types of electronics, gardening, raising bamboo, beekeeping, tinkering with everything mechanical, and collecting a lifetime of treasures including an enormous number of lifelong friends. He gave generously of his time to anyone who needed him.
Survivors include his wife, Marvel Jean Rudd of Grants Pass; a sister, Hannah Danielson of Medford; a brother, Harvey Rudd and wife, Joyce of Fresno, California and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his parents and a brother, Robert Rudd.
