Helen Marie Hice

Helen Marie Hice, 84, of Gold Hill, died Friday, March 16, 2007 at Hearthstone in Medford.

A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2007 at Eagle Point National Cemetery with Father John Cihak officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Helen was born March 19, 1922 in Delta, Colorado to William Henry Allen and Beulah Opal (Holman) Allen. She graduated from Delta High School and attended Ross Business College in Grand Junction, Colorado where she graduated with a degree in office administration. On August 1, 1941 she married Gilbert Delgren Hice of Paonia, Colorado, whom she met while attending college. During their 66 years together, they traveled and lived in many interesting places as a result of Gilbert’s military career. They first experienced the Medford area during World War II when Gilbert was assigned to Camp White. They chose to return in 1969 following their retirement.

Marie enjoyed raising four children with devotion and love and was a loving wife. She cherished family and friends, always delighting in their company, having a kind word, and a positive outlook on God’s gift of life and the power of Christian faith. Her vocation included office administrative positions with the railroad and civil service. She loved history, animals, dancing, sewing, cooking, gardening, and playing bridge. She could catch a fish when no one else could, was an expert marksman and could pan gold like a 49er. She enjoyed her life.

Her hobbies included playing bridge, fishing, cooking, gardening, panning gold, and history.

Survivors include her husband, Gilbert Hice; daughter, Linda Shepard; two sons, Tom Hice and Gib Hice, all of Gold Hill; a sister, Norma French of Sacramento, California; a brother, Lee Scott of Great Falls, Montana; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Bill Hice in 2005; her father, William Allen; her mother, Beulah Holman; her brother, Elmer Lee Allen; and a grandson, Thomas Hice in 2004.
