Helen Marie Byers

Helen Byers, a third-generation Oregonian, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 3, 2012 in Grants Pass, at the age of 94. She joins her husband, Bill; her daughter Sallyann; her mother and father; and her infant brother, William.

Helen was born on March 15, 1918, to George and Margaret Wise in Lafayette, Oregon. She married Bill Byers June 12, 1937 in Portland; they were married almost 65 years. She and Bill brought their three children from Scholls, Oregon, to Grants Pass in 1954. After 1959 they lived in several cities in California and returned to Grants Pass in 1991.

Helen was “the bestest mom in the whole world” to Sallyann Caldwell, Sandra Howell, and Steve Byers. Sandra and her husband, Dick, and Steve and his wife, Ann, miss her terribly, as do her 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.

The family thanks the many wonderful people who have also loved Helen and helped care for her, especially those at the Bridge and Highland House.

A viewing will be held at Hull and Hull Funeral Directors, 612 NW “A” Street, Grants Pass, Saturday, October 6, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Private interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
