Harris Pelcha

Harris Pelcha, age 87, of Glendale, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at his home.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the Assembly of God Church in Glendale with Pastor Terry Bess officiating. Private interment was held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Harris was born February 5, 1924 in Paducah, Kentucky to Jinks & Ollie Pelcha. He grew up in Kentucky and later worked for the Army Corps of Engineers on tow boats that towed cargo ships up river from Illinois to Michigan. He then was seaman in the Merchant Marines until moving to Portland, Oregon where he worked as a cook for Sambos Restaurant. In 1978 he moved from Portland to Glendale, Oregon where he married his wife, Ruth Ann on December 2, 1978.

Harris was a member of Glendale Assembly of God Church and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Association.

He especially loved vegetable gardening and enjoyed taking his produce to the Farmer’s Market in Glendale.

In addition to his wife, Ruth Ann; he is survived by his children, Joe, Kathy, Beverly, and Barbara; a brother, Lester; and many grandchildren.
