Hannah Ruth McGuire
March 26, 1989 — August 26, 2017
Hannah R. McGuire died on Saturday, August 26 while on a camping trip with friends at Indian Mary Park along the Rogue River in southern Oregon.
Hannah was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis to parents R. Ruth Price and Joseph McGuire. Outside of a year in Sweden, she lived in Corvallis her first 5 years. She has lived in Philomath the rest of her life, graduating from Philomath High School in 2007.
She graduated from Oregon State University in 2011 cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Biophysics.
She has worked at Gathering Together Farm since high school doing barn work, as a server and as a cashier. She was the CSA manager for three years and, for the last two years, she has been the Gathering Together Farm’s farmer’s market stand 'bread runner' in addition to being self-employed as a house and pet sitter.
At home, she enjoyed cooking from scratch using Gathering Together Farm’s fresh ingredients. Growing healthy food with care toward the land was important to Hannah. In 2014, she co-founded the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Bountiful Backyard (bountifulbackyard.org), then served on its Board of Directors with her mother, brother and sister-in-law, under the mission to facilitate the hands-on production of homegrown food.
Hannah is preceded in death by good friend Murphy Maselli and grandparents Cornelius M. and Margaret E. McGuire.
She is survived by her parents; grandparents James M. and Patricia B. Price; brother Mark J. McGuire; sister-in-law Laura McGuire; brother Sage Bothwell; sister Willow Bothwell; step-mother Michelle Bothwell; and numerous loving relatives and friends.
A short memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, at Philomath Middle School, 2021 Chapel Dr., Philomath. Please enter on the West side of the building.
