Grover "Dale" Mayfield

Grover Dale Mayfield died peacefully on November 29, 2011, at the age of 91
surrounded by his wife of 63 years and a number of his children.

Dale, as he was known, was born on October 30, 1920 in Morley, Missouri to Grover and Bertha Mayfield. His family moved to Talent, Oregon early in his life and pursued agricultural efforts with an Apple Orchard. They subsequently moved to Draper Valley and then to the Holland area where they established a Dairy and the family farm that remains in the family to the present. Dale was one of three sons and one daughter in the Mayfield family.

He joined the Army during World War II and became an Infantryman and was sent to the European theater. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Bronze Star for His combat action.

Dale returned to Oregon and resumed his lifelong pursuit of farming. He and his wife started a horse logging business along with their farming efforts and began raising the family. Dale then began a 35 year career at Rough and Ready Lumber company from which he retired.

He was preceded in death by his parents: his brothers, Dean and Warren; his sister, Ortance; a daughter, Sandy; and a grandson, Stevie.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; Daughters and spouses Gerry and Mike Heick; Kathi and Bob Day of Riverside, Ca.; Dayle and Larry Cox of San Juan P.R.; Linda and Harold Hartman of Malin, Or.;Sandy (deceased) and Guy Ybarra of St. Louis, Mo.; Kelly and David Coryell of Portland, Or.; Lore and Shane Hancock of Canyonville, Or.; Jodi and Fred Braesekz of Chandler, Arizona; Martie and Greg Rising of Las Vegas, Nv.; Son and wife Bozena Mayfield of Lake Oswego, Or.; 23 Grandchildren ; 13 Great Grand Children.

Memorial services as a celebration of Dale’s life will be held on December 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Valley Memorial Evangelical Church at 498 Laurel Drive, Cave Junction, Oregon. Internment at Laurel Cemetery will follow immediately after the service with military honors. A reception will follow at the Junction Inn in Cave Junction. Please join us for this special event to celebrate Dale’s long, productive and militarily honorable life.
