Longtime Grants Pass resident, Gordon Earl Chaffee, age 90, of Tualatin, Oregon died June 1, 2019 in Tualatin.
Gordon was born March 21, 1929 in Wilmar, California to Frederick Earl & Mildred Ida Chaffee. In 1948 he graduated from Alhambra High School. From October 1948 to August 1952 he served under General Curtis Lemay in the United States Air Force. On November 15, 1951 in Alhambra, California he married Sharon Rose Dillon. Gordon worked as an Alhambra firefighter and ambulance driver from 1953 to 1978. He also worked as a flooring contractor from 1960 to 1979 and later co-owned G&M Wholesale from 1979 to 1991. Gordon retired from the Alhambra Fire Department in 1978 when he moved to Grants Pass, Oregon. In 2008 he moved to King City, Oregon and in 2016 moved to Tualatin.
Gordon was a member of Bethany Church in Alhambra where he was a part of the Bethany Men’s Quartet and the Continental Singers; and later a member of River Valley Church in Grants Pass.
His hobbies included boating, camping, fabricating and building, travel, and quartet and choral singing. He especially loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his children James Michael Chaffee of Nolensville, Tennessee, John Earl Chaffee of Grants Pass, Oregon, Dainette Lynn Harris of Tualatin, Oregon; and Jerry Allen Chaffee of Alta Loma, California; a brother Glenn Albert Chaffee; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Sharon Chaffee; and his parents.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, 612 NW A Street, Grants Pass with Pastor Ron Hayworth officiating.
Private interment will be at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens in Grants Pass.
