It is with profound sadness that the family of Gloria May Fox (nee Winnem) announce her passing after a short illness, on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the age of 96. She was surrounded by her family in Grants Pass as she went peacefully back to God.
Gloria was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She had the most generous and loving spirit, always putting others before herself. She showed quiet strength, commitment, sense of humor and faith in God in all that she did, counseling her children to see the best in others. Her family and friends will always be thankful for the gift that was her life and love.
Gloria made every holiday special by decorating and serving her family delicious meals. She was the heart of her family and was always there for her husband and children. Her kind and caring nature served as a role model for how to live. Her love of nature and animals played a central part in who she was.
Gloria was the only child born to Jens and Elva Winnem on March 10, 1928, in Seattle, Washington. After graduating from Edmonds High School, Gloria worked for Nabisco and the National Labor Relations Board. In 1948, she met her lifelong love, Roy Fox, on a blind date at a Seattle Rainiers baseball game. The following year, they were married.
Gloria and Roy moved to California in 1959, where they raised their two children, Randy and Cyndie. While in California, family was always the center of Gloria’s life. While taking care of her family, she was also an excellent bowler, tended a lovely garden, enjoyed an occasional round of golf with the girls, and pursued her artistic talents. She was an excellent painter and was very skillful, making many Christmas decorations that the family still has to this day. Up until a week before she passed, Gloria was knitting hats and scarves for family as well as for those in need.
After Roy’s retirement, Gloria and he moved to Grants Pass in 1985, where they attended Calvary Lutheran Church and made many precious friends and memories together. They always enjoyed Friday night dinners with their friends at Elmer’s.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Jens Winnem and Elva Maria Teresa Lundgren Winnem. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 75 years, Roy Fox, her son and daughter-in-law Randy and Terri Fox, as well as her daughter and son-in-law, Cyndie and Steve Tarr. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Jenica, Randy and Madison Fox, and Angelica Tabback, as well as four great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Trip, Claire and Joseph. We all miss her very much.
Gloria was a private person so in order to honor her, there will be a service for family and close friends in the near future. As a tribute to her beautiful soul, we raise a glass of chardonnay in Gloria’s honor.
