Glenda Carole Johann

September 17, 1939 — July 18, 2024

Glenda Carole Johann, age 84, of Grants Pass, died July 18, 2024 at her home.

Glenda Carole Wellman was born in Mojave, California in 1939, and she lived there throughout her childhood and young adult years. Glenda was active in many high school activities, including song leader and swim team. She trained to be a lifeguard at the Edward’s Air Force Base, alongside the military personnel who were also training there. Glenda moved to Oregon in the summer of 1973 and quickly embraced the mountains, rivers, and forests as her home. How she loved the beauty of the Illinois Valley. Glenda found great joy in gardening and preparing food that she grew herself. She took on a wide variety of jobs in order to support herself and her five children, and she made many friends, especially through her time as a choir member at the Community Bible Church. Glenda was devoted to her children, attending all of their school activities and doing whatever it took to make sure that they were able to participate in their many interests and passions. This was not always easy, but Glenda was resourceful, enthusiastic, and determined. She was a creative problem solver, and she helped her family members to develop this ability, as well. She taught her family how to sew, cook, and garden. And she showed them how to make something out of nothing, whether it be a meal out of a seemingly empty pantry or doll clothes out of scraps. Glenda had an amazing work ethic and enjoyed many interesting types of employment from telephone operator to supplier of custom mountain bikes. The work that she most enjoyed, however, took her back to her roots as a competitive swimmer and lifeguard. During the last decade of her life, Glenda served as a swim instructor. With laughter and song, Glenda shared her love of aquatics with countless children, helping them learn to swim and to be safe in the water. Glenda was a painter, a crafter, and a grandmother. She was playful, and she delighted in sharing jokes, pranks, and silly fun. Time spent with her sister, her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, and her friends were her happiest moments. She loved to reminisce about these, and we would love to have you reflect with us on special memories that you have of her. Glenda is survived by her sister, Lorri McDaniel, her children Dorine Moore, Joyce Alexander, John Webb, Kenda Boac, and Brettani Shannon, their spouses, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is loved dearly and will always have a special place in our hearts.

Please leave a heartfelt memory on her Guestbook.
