Gertrude Louisa Hogg, age 87, of Grants Pass, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center.
A graveside service with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Eagle Point National Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 1730 Robertson Bridge Road. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Trudy, as she was known to her family and friends, was born Gertrude Louisa Kruse June 2, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to immigrant German parents, Hans & Lena Kruse. Her father, a chef and baker, moved the family to Oregon where Trudy spent most of her youth working in her Dad’s bakery in Hermiston. She joined the United States Army and was trained as a dental technician (called a denturist today). She married her husband, Roy Hogg, a Navy Seabee electrician, while living in Los Angeles, California and moved to Port Hueneme, California. She raised four children, was an outstanding wife, and worked full time for the Navy dental lab. She and her husband moved to Lake Tahoe, Nevada were they started a business, TruRoy Industries; she running a furniture upholstery shop and he being an electrical contractor. In 1975 they moved to Grants Pass where they ran their business, TruRoy Electric, as partners for 35 years.
Trudy enjoyed crafting, especially beading and needlepoint. Among her many other hobbies were sewing and gardening. She routinely placed 1st premium and best of show in the floral and house plant categories at the Josephine County Fair. She also raised Rex Rabbits and helped Roy tend to a 20 plus flock of Suffolk sheep, milked the family cows, slopped hogs, and sold eggs from her many chickens.
In addition to her husband, Roy Hogg of Grants Pass, Oregon; Trudy is survived by two daughters, Michel Gillette of Mesa, Arizona and Syd Swenson of Fairbanks, Alaska; and a son, Nicholas Hogg of Merlin, Oregon; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Tony Kruse of San Antonio, Texas.
A son, James Hogg, preceded her in death in 1973.
