Gertrude “Dottie” Smith, age 86, of Rogue River, died Thursday, January 5, 2012 at her home.
Dottie was born July 2, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri. As a baby she moved with her parents, Margaret & Jack Haley to Los Angeles. She grew up in the Los Angeles area and after graduating high school she met and subsequently married Coleman Joseph Lidie III in June, 1944. They had two daughters, Diana and Charlotte and a son, Eugene who preceded her in death. After her divorce from Coleman she worked for many years at Cerritos Jr. College in Cerritos, California. In 1970 she and her second husband, Ernest Johnson, moved to Sunny Valley, Oregon where they purchased and operated the Radio Park Store. Ernie passed away in the late 70’s. On February 1, 1986 she married James Smith in Rogue River. Their nearly 26 years of married life included volunteer work, travel and numerous hobbies.
She is survived by her husband Jim, daughters Diana Lorentzen and Charlotte Moeller, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
