Gerrie Lee Wicks passed away at home among family on the morning of Monday, January 11, 2016. She was born Gerrie Lee McGlone, youngest of two daughters to James and Geraldine McGlone on October 6, 1957 in Grants Pass.
She retired last year from teaching third grade at Lincoln Elementary School after a career that spanned 30 years in District 7. Although her love was teaching, her true passion was seeing her students thrive and succeed. Over the years she received many acknowledgements from former students and their parents expressing gratitude for her efforts. She spent her days making sure that her third-graders knew that they were valued and cared for, then came home every evening and did the same for her family.
Gerrie enjoyed cooking for family and friends, tending to her many gardens, and watching the birds that were attracted to the feeders that she kept well stocked. Survivors include her two sons, Joshua and Jacob, her husband of 40 years, Gary, her sister, Debbie Benson, and numerous nieces and nephews. She remains with us through her love, which was shared generously even through her last and most difficult days. She is greatly missed.
A private person, Gerrie requested that no formal service be held; in lieu of flowers, please send donations marked “in memory of Gerrie Wicks” to Rogue Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 951, Grants Pass, Oregon 97528.
