Geraldine "Gerry" Ann Evans

Geraldine Ann Evans, 85, passed away on June 30, 2021, due to complications with congestive heart failure. A resident of Grants Pass, OR. Gerry was born on August 21, 1935, in San Francisco, CA, and spent her youth in the Bay Area. In 1957 she graduated as a Registered Nurse from Samuel Merritt Hospital School of Nursing in Oakland, CA. Back in the days when a nursing degree was required, she was a stewardess for Transocean Air Lines and traveled throughout the Pacific region. She continued in nursing well into her 70’s. Known for her sense of humor and caring demeanor she was adored by friends and coworkers throughout her career. Some highlights were working as a nurse for Sea World San Diego, the Del Mar Race Track, and also a long stint with Indian Health Services providing care to various tribes. Gerry retired whilst working as a home health nurse in the Aberdeen WA area.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing the harp, attending church and always had a dog by her side. In 1976 she and her two children traveled across the country in a camper, timing their visit to Washington, DC, with the July 4th bicentennial celebration at the Washington Monument. Gerry was keen on kayaking, rafting, and even zip-lined at age 82 while visiting Alaska. Most recently she settled in Grants Pass, volunteering at the Rogue Valley Humane Society, where she adopted her dog Daisy.

She is survived by her children James Woodhead and his wife Lynn of Santee, CA, and Heidi Ward and her husband William of Grants Pass, OR; grandchildren Conner Brown and wife Valerie, and Zac Ward and wife Arianna; great-granddaughters May Brown and Sutton Ward; and stepbrother Darryl Wallis and his wife Priscilla of Bellingham, WA. Her husband John Edward Evans predeceased her.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 10:00am at Hull and Hull Funeral Directors in Grants Pass, OR. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Gerry’s remembrance to the Rogue Valley Humane Society. https://roguevalleyhumanesociety.org/ways-to-donate/donations/
