Gerald E. Anderson, age 86, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Three Rivers Medical Center.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2012 at BPO Elks Lodge #1584, 207 SW K Street in Grants Pass. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Jerry was born on January 30th, 1926 in Gilbert, Minnesota. He attended Virginia High School, and after graduation, enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in the South Pacific on an LCI as a chief cook. He was married to Peggy Reed. Jerry worked for Pacific Bell for 25 years which took him from Minnesota to California. He moved from Alhambra, California to Oregon in 1977, where he joined the Elks lodge and became a lifetime member working his way through the chairs and became an Exalted Ruler in 1989. He volunteered on the suicide hotline for 5 years and was an avid gardener until he moved into the Rogue Valley Retirement Home this last June. He loved crossword puzzles as well as hunting, fishing, and found time for beautiful stained glass work. As a gourmet chef, everyone looked forward to anything he created.
He is survived by his wife Peggy Reed; his 2 wonderful daughters, Jill Spencer and Gay Herrera; two sisters, Shirley Rooks and Paullete Sands, 6 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a son, Paul John Anderson; sister, Lois Carlson and parents, Ellen and Frank.
