George Yuel Johnson, age 89, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at his home.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2011 at Hull & Hull Chapel. Private interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

George was born February 22, 1922 in Moline, Kansas to Rudolph & Edna Johnson. As a young man he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Kansas. At age 20 he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a foreman laborer and sharpshooter until his honorable discharge in 1945. At that time, he returned to Oregon where he was a lumberjack and millworker by trade. In 1953, he married Shirley June Stover and they had four children, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren (with two more on the way). George retired at age 63.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, feeding wild doves, reading, watching westerns, and working in the yard.
In addition to his wife, Shirley June Johnson of Grants Pass, Oregon; he is survived by four children, George Marshall Johnson and Kay Rose both of Grants Pass, Oregon, Linda Merle Schultz of Cave Junction, Oregon and Lois Marie Schneider of Sacramento, California; a brother, Fred Johnson of Grants Pass, Oregon; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Zelma, May, Dolly, and Juanita; and five brothers, Bill, John, Rudy, Jewel “Joe”, and Jesse.
