Age 91, of Grants Pass died August 30, 2010 at Highland House Nursing Home. George was born December 27, 1918 in Detroit, Michigan, the oldest of two children. George served for 4 years during World War II with the 815th Army Corp of Engineers in Africa and Europe. He met his wife Florence while stationed in Tacoma, Washington at Keiser Field. They were married in September of 1945. After being honorably discharged in October of 1945, he and Florence returned to Detroit where they had three children and he joined his father as a partner in the family construction business. After 17 years in Detroit, the family moved to Covina, California where he worked for another 11 years in construction before retiring to New Port Richey, Florida. In Florida he was president of the local stamp club. A member of the Elks and Eagles, he was very active in the local church and Big Brother Program. He also taught blueprint reading at the community college. In 2001 George and Florence moved to Grants Pass where he joined St. Luke's Episcopal Church and was a member in the Elks and Eagles.
George loved spending time with his grandchildren, dancing with Florence, long walks, and nature.
George is survived by his daughter Paula and grandchildren: Teal, Michael, Elicia, Nathan, Aaron, and Kyle. Also surviving him are his daughter-in-law Rhonda and son-in-law Scott. Earlier this year, he was preceded in death by Florence, his wife. He was also preceded in death by their two sons, George Springhart Jr. and Bobby Springhart as well as by his sister Marie Scolamiero.
George's ashes will be buried simultaneously with those of Florence at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. No service is planned.
