George F. Hewitt, age 93, of Rogue River, died Monday, February 10, 2014 at his home.
Private interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park – Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles, California. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Remembrances may be made to a local chapter of Special Olympics.
George was born June 7, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois where he grew up and graduated from high school. He served in the United States Navy first stationed in Pensacola, Florida and was an airplane navigator. After being transferred to Annapolis, Maryland he worked with Dr Robert Goddard (father of American rocketry) where he became interested in aerospace. After his honorable discharge on May 18, 1942 he started his career in aerospace with Rocketdyne a division of North American Aviation retiring in 1983. On May 6, 1944 in Annapolis he married Etta Louise Stockett. On June 18, 1983 he moved from Woodland Hills, California to Rogue River.
George was a 32 degree Mason.
His hobbies included golfing, traveling, reading, and working around his property.
Survivors include his wife, Etta Louise Hewitt of Rogue River, Oregon; a son, Scott Hewitt of Simi Valley, California; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Hewitt in 1962 and a daughter, Susan Hewitt in 2013.
