George E. Moyer, age 96, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at his home.
No services will be held. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors in charge of cremation arrangements.
George was born August 27, 1914 near Knowles, Oklahoma in Beaver County and attended schools there through the eighth grade. He then moved to Liberal, Kansas where he graduated May 25, 1932. He worked at various farming jobs and whatever else he could find until January 6, 1934, at which time he enlisted in the United States Navy. He retired from the United States Navy on October 15, 1957. On May 9, 1956 he married Virginia in Aurora, Indiana. During his career he was awarded 14 medals and ribbons with a total of 19 stars. After his retirement from the Navy he worked for the United States Postal Service for over 14 years in National City, California, retiring June 30, 1972. In March of 1974 they moved to Grants Pass.
He was a member of the Fleet Reserve, Eagles, Elks, and Bridge & Pinochle Clubs. He belonged to the Organic Gardening Club and entered flowers and vegetables in the County Fair.
His hobbies included traveling to all 50 states and to some 20 countries with his wife. He enjoyed gardening and attending the Growers Market.
He is survived by his nephew Terry Crosland of Powell, Tennessee; and his cousin Larry Smith of Kettle Falls, Washington.
