Genevieve Anne "Gene" Stone

Genevieve Anne “Gene” Stone, age 85, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

Private services have been held. Interment was at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

“Gene” was born October 14, 1922 in Ross, California. She lived in Anchorage, Alaska for a number of years where she worked as an Executive Secretary and Personel Manager for Standard Oil of California before moving to Grants Pass in 1968. Six months later she returned to Anchorage, then returned to Grants Pass in October of 1968 to live here permanently. For eight years she worked at Southern Oregon State Bank for Howard Hansen. She also worked for the County Commissioners in the Ford, Haugen and Calvert era for ten years and later as a legal secretary for a couple of years, retiring at age 62.

She enjoyed reading.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Donita Stone of Grants Pass; step-son, Michael Stone of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister Mary Furman of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; nephews, Steve & Mark Furman; niece Ann Furman Wolfe; closest friends, Diane Oldenburg and Alice Haight, both of Grants Pass and one grandchild, Charles (C.J.) Stone.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Harold W. “Rocky” Stone in 1987.
