Gene York, age 89, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Autumn House.
A visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2008 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.
A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Missouri Flat Cemetery with Pastor Russ Gibson officiating. Hull & hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
He was born Joseph Eugene York January 8, 1919 in Provolt, Oregon to Bert & Grace York. He attended Applegate School and Grants Pass High School. From 1944 to 1946 he served in the United States Navy. In 1938 he married Ruby Lee Slaughter and she died in 1969. In 1972 he married Mary Lou Wells Powers. He was a heavy equipment operator at Bates Mill in Merlin and later retired from Murphy Mill in 1975. He lived in the Applegate Valley all his life.
He was a rancher and enjoyed farming, raising cattle, going to auctions, and helping his neighbors.
In addition to his wife, Mary Lou York of Grants Pass; he is survived by a daughter, Sandi Jean Krouse of Grants Pass; two stepdaughters, Carole Lou Dellargione of Redding, California and Jennifer Paulson of Albany, Oregon; a stepson, Robert A. Powers of Medford; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
