G. Patrick Shealy Sr, age 76, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, September 10, 2015 at his home.
Patrick was born March 27, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland to Alexander & Bridget Shealy. After graduating from Washington State University, he worked as a a product manager for DuPont Corp at the Empire State Building - 4th floor in New York City. During the Vietnam Era, he was drafted and served in the United States Army as an SP5 from 1968 to 1970 stationed at Fayetteville, North Carolina. After his honorable discharge, Patrick moved to Southern California for a short time before moving to Grants Pass in 1971. He earned a master’s degree from Southern Oregon University and was hired as an advertising account manager in 1974 at the Grants Pass Daily Courier. He also taught advertising and marketing at Rogue Community College. On St Patrick’s Day March 17, 1979 at Grants Pass Patrick married his wife Patty. After the Daily Courier, he owned and operated a local advertising agency and worked as a prearrangement advisor for Hull & Hull Funeral Directors before his retirement in 2004.
Patrick was a member of the Elks and the American Legion.
He loved river rafting, gardening, books and especially his animals.
Survivors include his wife, Patty Shealy of Grants Pass; four children including beloved son, G. Patrick Shealy Jr and grandson, G. Patrick Shealy III; a stepdaughter, Lisa Hull and her family of Grants Pass; a brother, Alex Shealy and wife Janet of Bethany, Illinois; and a niece, Janie Shealy and her family of Omaha, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his nephew, Alex Shealy III; his parents; and a daughter, Shirley Shealy.
Private interment was held at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
