Fredric Charles Shipley

Fredric Charles Shipley, age 77, of Grants Pass passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014 after battling a long illness.

He was born in Eureka, California to Charles & Mabel Shipley. He was a graduate of Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo California where he excelled in many sports, especially football and baseball.

After graduation, Fred began a journey of service that would continue throughout his life. He was an honorably discharged veteran of both the United States Marine Corp and the United States Air Force. He continued his service related spirit and retired, after a distinguished career with the San Rafael Fire Department.

Upon relocating to Oregon he fell in love with the history of the Oregon Trail and the covered bridges found throughout the state. He was a lifelong football fan, especially the San Francisco 49ers.

Fred was a loving husband and father, an avid outdoorsman who shared his wife and children’s love of horses, and was blessed with a green thumb that was enjoyed by all who knew him.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Rae Shipley.

He is survived by his four children, Fredrick Charles Shipley, Jr. of Sweet Home, Oregon, Lisa Phillips and her husband Rod of Findlay, Ohio, Todd Shipley of Santa Rosa, California and Daniel and his wife Lisa of Grants Pass Oregon. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
