Francis John “Frank” Kain, age 94, of Grants Pass, died February 12, 2016 at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Frank was born November 17, 1921 in Newark, New Jersey the only child of John Joseph Kain and Julia Rose Mahon Kain. He resided in Kearny, New Jersey where he graduated from St. Cecilia’s High School in June 1940. He played trombone in the high school band and following high school played with Johnny Matt, Larry Kay, Sammy Kaye Jr and the Brewster Marching Band. On November 21, 1942 in Kearny he married Ann Patricia Wallace. Frank served as an aviation metal smith in the US Navy Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Pensacola, Florida. He played the trombone in the base band and with the Tex Beneke Band during his training in Oklahoma. He was a member of the P.B.A. and served on the Kearny Police force from 1950-1980 and was Accident Investigator, I.D. Officer, Traffic Division Coordinator, and liaison between the police department and the Kearny school system, also supervising the Safety Patrol Program. He was a professional photographer, specializing in weddings from 1950 to 1987. After retirement, he worked for General Paper in Pt. Pleasant. After the death of his first wife, he married Nancy Susan Buttelwerth on January 24, 1987. Frank and Nancy made their home in Glendale, California before moving to Rogue River, Oregon and finally Grants Pass, Oregon where he worked for Litton ATD in charge of security.
His interests were custom wood working and enjoyed working in his wood shop at home. His passion was photography and music.
He was predeceased by his first wife Ann Patricia Wallace and a son Thomas Philip Kain.
He is survived by his wife Nancy S. Kain; his children Bernadette Ann Perez, Francis John Kain Jr., David James Kain, Gregory Francis Kain, Vincent DePaul Kain, John Francis Kain, Julianne O'Brien and Elizabeth Ann Kain-Bolen; a stepdaughter Tina Buttelwerth Smith; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors with Deacon Bob Chapin officiating.
