Florence Christina Hussey-Wilson passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011 in her home in Grants Pass. She was surrounded with love from her family: Her two daughters, Lori Cline and Toni Markley, as well as Aaron Markley and her 7 grandchildren, Kristin, Nick, Melissa, Derrick, and Angeli Cline, Kaity and Tyler Markley; and her sister, Myrtle Werle.
On March 11, 1931, Florence was born the 7th of 10 children, nine girls and the youngest a boy. “Daddy wouldn't stop until he had a boy!” Flo would always explain. She is survived by her sisters Beulah Herman, Myrtle Werle, and Lucille Reynolds. She joins her sisters and brother in Rest: Clara Werle, Rose Wallen, Harriet Shafer, Muriel Burlog, Laura Herman, and Lloyd Hussey.
Florence is remembered for her loving and serving spirit. She was many things to many people. She was Mom, Nana, Tupie and Flo. She grew up south of Upham and moved West to Salmon, Idaho when she was 15 to her Uncle Frank's house on the Hussey Ranch. Tupie was more suited for city living, so she went to San Francisco to live with her sister Rose. San Francisco is where she met her husband and started her family. She raised her two girls in San Francisco, California and Grants Pass, Oregon. Later she moved to Seattle, Washington to help raise her first three grandchildren. After the three had graduated high school she couldn't resist moving back to Grants Pass to help raise her two youngest grandchildren!
Flo had a love for dancing from an early age. “Daddy taught us the old dances in the living room when it was raining.” Then, when Flo was working at a carhop in San Francisco, the dance instructor from the Arthur Murray School across the street would ask her to come dance with the young men who didn't have partners. Possibly the most fun her family had watching her on the dance floor was at her grandson Derrick's wedding. At 79 years old she laughed as they spun around the floor! We are sure she is Up There dancing now.
Internment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Grants Pass.
Her daughters invite all family and friends to celebrate her life on her 80th birthday, which will be held March 12 at 2 pm at Redwood Country Church in Grants Pass, Oregon. Food and drinks will be served. Please bring your favorite memories and photos of Florence.
