Eugene H. Dyer

Eugene H. Dyer, age 84, of Grants Pass, passed away at his home, Monday, May 11, 2009.

A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors with Pastor Russ Millsaps officiating. He will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Gene was born April 21, 1925 in Preston, Oklahoma. As a young man he worked in the shipyards. He served in the United States Navy as an electrician on the A.K. 71-USS Adhara. He was discharged in December 1945. In Grants Pass he was a building contractor and built many homes before retiring. When in good health, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. Gene and his “bench buddies” were the unofficial greeters at the shopping center, where he enjoyed sharing stories, telling jokes and laughing with his friends. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 28.

Gene is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marylin Dyer of Grants Pass; a son Ronald Dyer of Winton, California, three daughters, Deborah Demshar of Stockton, California, Marcia Omstead of Tacoma, Washington and Evelyn Aarseth of Central Point; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren;

His brother, Raymond Dyer, a sister, Mildred DeSoto, and a granddaughter, Dana Renee Bryant preceded him in death.
