Emily Nyte
Emily Nyte died June 11, 2022 in Grants Pass, Oregon. Emily was born Robin Louise DeWitt in San Diego, California on June 17, 1953. Her parents, Louis Hannick DeWitt and Shirley Ann (Dewitt) Ross, nee Daitch, and her brother, Lance B. DeWitt, predeceased her.
She was known around the neighborhood for her eccentric personality and the perfectly cultivated natural landscape in her front yard.
Emily was fiercely independent and had a hard time accepting help from others. She was highly intelligent and had a deadpan sense of humor. She was a skilled orator who knew when to be kind and sweet and when to be bold and aggressive to get what she needed. She took daily walks to the store and enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, collecting rocks, and finding treasures at secondhand stores. She loved animals, especially dogs.
Emily struggled to find her place in the world. She lived much of her later years in isolation, finding it difficult to trust people. When she dared to let someone past her defenses, they would find that she was a kind person who struggled every day to overcome injustice and find peace of mind.
In lieu of flowers, please just be kind. A small act of kindness may help assure someone who is struggling that they matter and someone cares about them.
Please share a memory on the tribute wall.
