Elzie Benton Parker Jr., age 94, passed away Aug. 6, 2019, at Highland House in Grants Pass.
Elzie was born Dec. 13, 1924, in Wetumpka, Oklahoma. He and his wife moved to Grants Pass in 1957.
Elzie was a WWII veteran who served on the USS Nassau, an aircraft carrier. After the war he graduated from John Brown University a radio announcer. He became part of the KAJO/KLDR family and retired in 1995.
He attended the Savage St. Church of Christ and served as an elder and song leader, and also preached in churches from Gold Beach to Medford.
Elzie was a pilot and enjoyed wood cutting, gardening, fishing and duck hunting.
A viewing will be held from 2-4 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, at Hull & Hull. He will be buried at 9 a.m., Friday, Aug. 23, 2019, at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Jean Parker; two children; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
