Eileen M. Akers

Eileen M. Akers, age 76, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

No services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Eileen was born August 8, 1933 in Ellsworth, Ohio to Edwin & Jessie Ewing. She graduated from Canfield High School in Canfield, Ohio. She married and had three children and later divorced. In 1965 she moved to San Fernando Valley. In 1969, in Las Vegas, Nevada she married Tom Akers. She worked as an LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) from 1963 and in 1979 she earned her RN Degree at Los Angeles Trade Tech. She worked as an evening supervisor at the Medical Center of North Hollywood. In 1995 she moved from Palmdale, California to Grants Pass and continued nursing at Laurel Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for 10 years as an RN and weekend Supervisor.

She volunteered with Josephine County Search & Rescue.

She enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include her companion, Bob Lumpkin of Cave Junction, Oregon; two daughters, Theresa Ewan of Williams, Oregon and Mary Jane VanAuker of North Jackson, Ohio; two sisters, Doris Bailey of Berlin Center, Ohio and Karen Schuller of Lansing, Michigan; eleven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was her husband Thomas Earl Akers on March 1, 1997; a son, Paul Prozy who died in 1999 and a brother, Edwin Ewing.
