Edward Lee Roy Smith, age 74, of Cave Junction, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at his home.
Private services have been held. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Remembrances may be made to the Moose Lodge designated for cancer research.
He was born July 8, 1934 in Drumheller, Alberta Canada to James & Marie Smith. From 1951 to 1954 he served in the United States Navy. He married Barbara Jean Done and they were together for 38 years until she died four years ago. He was an iron worker foreman for the Iron Workers Union Local 118. He moved from Yerington, Nevada to Cave Junction five years ago.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Nevada, Oregon, and California.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and gardening. He especially loved his pet dog “Chee Chee” a tea cup Chihuahua.
Survivors include two sons, Reggie Smith of Sparks, Nevada and Samuel Smith of Montana; five daughters, Debbie Gelmstedt of Fernley, Nevada, Sandy Jenson of Eureka, California, Geri Smith of Cave Junction, Edythe Smith of Eddyville, and Rebecca Whyte of Cave Junction; three brothers, Dee Smith of Sacramento, California, Don White of Bullhead City, Arizona, and Bill White of Long Beach, California; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nephews, Melvin and Dennis.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Alan Smith in 1985.
