Edna Amanda Hemmlar

Edna Amanda Hemmlar, age 99, of Rogue River, died Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Autumn House.

Family services will be held. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Edna was born August 2, 1913 in Logan, Utah to Silas & Amanda Ricks. In 1960 in Santa Barbara, California she married George Hemmlar. In the 1950s she was the only woman that worked as an electronic technician at RCA assisting with the design of the first color television. In 1962 she moved from Topanga Canyon, California to Rogue River. Together with her husband over their years in the Rogue River/Wimer area, she built houses; owned and operated a fitness center, a miniature golf course, art gallery, and arcade.

Edna was a member and served as president for TOPS and the Rogue River and Wimer Garden Clubs.

Her hobbies included oil painting on canvas; painting on rocks; gardening; reading; knitting; sewing; and crocheting. She was a talented seamstress. She also enjoyed traveling the world by ship cruises, trains, and automobiles.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Gray of Carson City, Nevada; a son, Steven Staker of Rogue River, Oregon; two brothers, Floyd Ricks of Long Beach, California and Robert Ricks of Ogden, Utah; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hemmlar; a son, Tommy Staker; and a grandson, Greg Gray.
