Edgar “Eddie” D. Gillette, age 90, of Central Point, Oregon, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011 at his home in Central Point.
Eddie was born January 27, 1921 in Stanley, North Dakota to Don & Edna Gillette. On August 29, 1942 in Seattle, Washington he married Norma Livingston. On September 21st he left to begin three years of service in the United States Army Air Forces Base Unit as a Sergeant. He then worked for United Airlines as an A&P mechanic. In 1981 he retired having worked at both San Francisco, California and Portland, Oregon airports. He lived for a number of years in Oregon, Florida, Arizona, Idaho, and California. He and Norma were approaching their 69th wedding anniversary.
Eddie loved bowling, baseball and anything to do with airplanes. He obtained his private pilot’s license. He enjoyed a good quarrel and was a do-it-all sort of guy. On death and dying he always said he wasn’t going.
Survivors include his wife, Norma of Central Point; his oldest son, Eddie Jr. and his only grandson, Ronnie Burkett.
Preceding him in death was a son, Ronald Joe and a daughter, Laura Ann Burkett (mother of his only grandson).
His wishes were to be cremated. A brief memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
