Duane A. Torvik, age 83, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at a local adult foster care home.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Calvary Lutheran Church. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Duane was born July 1st, 1926 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. On July 6th, 1947 he married Irene Knodel. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a civil engineer and his work took him to several places including Chile and the Solomon Islands. After retiring in 1989 they moved from Minot, North Dakota to Grants Pass.
He volunteered at Grants Pass Historical Society, the Food Bank and his church.
His hobbies included golfing, woodworking and travelling with his wife. His favorite pastime was telling jokes and making himself and others laugh. His family was very important to him and he loved spending time with them.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Torvik of Grants Pass; two daughters, Nancy Smith of Burnett Heads, Australia and Jill Weitz of Hermiston, Oregon; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Annette Orchard.
