Dr. Raelyn N. Sutton, DDS, was born on January 2nd, 1949 in De Smet, South Dakota, in the middle of a blizzard, to Thelma and Lawrence. He joined two older brothers, one of whom was hoping for a baby sister, but decided a baby brother would suffice. As a young child, he moved from Carthage, South Dakota to Lebanon, Oregon where he attended middle and high school, graduating in 1967. After high school, Dr. Sutton attended Pacific Lutheran University from 1967-1970 for his undergraduate studies (graduating in an unprecedented 3 years), and then completed the dentistry program through the University of Oregon in 1974.
After completing dental school, his young family moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he served as a Captain in the Army as a dentist from 1974-76. In 1977, Dr. Sutton and his family moved to Grants Pass and purchased “A Street Dental”. He ran a successful practice until 2021, retaining the same office crew and loyal clientele throughout his tenure.
Raelyn was a man of many hobbies. He loved music, painting, snow skiing, rafting, gardening, and entertaining. Raelyn loved life and was a kid at heart. He enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage, and teasing his grandkids every chance he got. Rarely could Raelyn turn down a competition, even on vacation. Quite the renaissance man, Raelyn could hold a conversation with anyone and made friends wherever he went.
Raelyn passed away suddenly on July 24th, 2022 and is survived by his brothers Larry and Glen, wife Martina, children Aaron and his wife Christy, Kevin and his wife Zuhey, Jennifer and her fiance Huston, Becky and her husband Clarence, Amy and her husband John, Tim and his wife Alisa, and 11 grandchildren.
To say Raelyn was loved is an understatement. Summarizing his life into a newspaper worthy blurb feels insignificant given his larger than life persona. He was and will remain a strong influence in the lives of many.
