Douglas Carl Hanhart, age 62, of Grants Pass, died February 17, 2024 at Vacaville Medical Center in Vacaville, California
Doug was born August 1, 1961 in Castro Valley, California to Carl & Lorna Hanhart. He was a graduate of Grants Pass High School. He received a Bachelors degree and served in the United States Navy. In November, Doug sold his house and purchased a Ford F350 dually and a 42' long RV to live and travel in. His zeal for life and adventure was great!
Doug was an amazing son, brother, father, uncle, and to many he was the most intelligent, witty, fun-loving, and practical joke making friend.
There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t at least try.
Growing up on a small farm his sister remembers having to clean rabbit barns and he grumbled a bit, but always had a way of making both him and her laugh through the process.
Doug was active in church as a teenager, being one of the best Bible Quiz contestants. He was involved in, 4H and chess club and loved computers even as early as junior high school. When Doug took the SATs in high-school he ranked very high, which ended up launching his career in the Navy. A funny story about the SATs, Doug aka Myron Schroener, took the same SAT test and earned a higher score!
Doug was an avid reader, loved science fiction, and was a Star Trek geek and Star Wars junkie. Doug was part of a walking group in Washington state, sometimes getting in 3-4 miles a couple times a week. He loved playing board games and challenging brain games both in person and online.
He took his daughter Emily on great adventures and showed her around the world as much as he could. He traveled to Europe, Greece, Paris, a month-long road trip around America, then a train ride to North and South Dakota with other family members. Through his IT and management positions, he also traveled to Dubai.
Survivors include daughter Emily Hanhart; father Carl Hanhart; sister Victoria aka Vicki Hanhart; and nephew Justin Hanhart.
