Dorothy C. Holbert

Dorothy C. Holbert, age 84, of Grants Pass died Sunday, March 25, 2007 at her home.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors in Grants Pass.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Humane Society of Rogue Valley, 429 NW Scenic Drive, Grants Pass OR 97526.

Dorothy was born February 28, 1923 in Frelighsburg, Quebec, Canada to Herman Tittemore and Mable Hubbard Tittemore. As an infant, her family moved to Vermont where she was raised and completed high school at People’s Academy in Morrisville, Vermont. She trained as a nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York, New York and served as a registered nurse in Boston, Los Angeles, and Astoria, Oregon. In 1945 she married Ensign Kelley Holbert of Coos Bay in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dorothy raised a family while traveling with the Navy to duty stations in Guam; Astoria; Havana, Cuba; Naples, Italy; and Barcelona and Rota, Spain as well as postings on the East Coast. In 1976 the family moved from Rota, Spain to Grants Pass.

Dorothy was a member of various groups supporting protection of wild and domestic animals and the environment.

From 1978 to 1990 Dorothy volunteered with Senior Services in Grants Pass.

Her hobbies included cooking, environmental issues, and reading.

In addition to her husband, Kelley Holbert of Grants Pass; she is survived by three sons, Michael Holbert of Corvallis, David Holbert of Portland, and William Holbert of Sacramento, California; and a granddaughter, Emelie Holbert.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Holbert and a brother.
