Donald Richard Ayriss, age 87, of Rogue River, died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at his home.
Family services will be held. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Don was born May 7, 1926 in Inglewood, California to Richard & Irene (Arnott) Ayriss and was raised in Pasadena, California. In 1947 in Pasadena he married Wanda Faye McKusick. In 1960 they moved to southern Oregon. He was the physical plant director for the Kent School District in Kent, Washington and the Salem-Keizer Public Schools in Salem, Oregon.
Don was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4116 in Rogue River and served as commander for 2002-2003 and 2004-2005; served on the Rogue River Planning Commission; was a Lovejoy Hospice Board Member and volunteer for 10 years; was a volunteer construction supervisor for Habitat for Humanity for eight years; and served on the Oregon School Facilities Management Association serving as president in 1986-1987.
The highlights of his life were playing golf at The Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland and participating in the Honors Flight in 2011 to honor World War II veterans.
In addition to his wife, Wanda Ayriss of Rogue River, Oregon; he is survived by four children, Alana Diane Ayriss, Michael Stephen Ayriss, Bonnie Kathleen Hunt, and Colleen Marie Ayriss; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
