Donald Gordon Sandys

Donald Gordon Sandys, age 91, of Grants Pass, died Friday, December 14, 2012 at the home of his son.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Donald was born July 6, 1921 in Defiance, Ohio to Uhl & Florence (Hammond) Sandys. On November 13, 1943 he married Mabel Dech. They were devoted to one another for 66 years before her death in 2009. He served in the United States Navy as a gunners mate on board a maintenance ship in the Pacific. Don worked as a plumber for Benedict & Benedict in Pasadena, California until his retirement in 1980. Don and Mabel’s family life centered around their faith and in the Church of the Nazarene of Pasadena, California,Temple City, California and Grants Pass, Oregon.

Don enjoyed studying history and traveling.

Survivors include his son, Richard Sandys of Grants Pass; two daughters, Barbara Mesarosh of Arcadia, California and Donna Morton of Kent, Washington; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Sandys of Defiance, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
