Della May Shorb-Williamson

Former Grants Pass resident, Della May Shorb-Williamson, age 88, of Medford, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Arbor Place.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Della was born 7/7/21 in LaGrande Oregon to McCoy and Ida Rector. At the age of eight, because of the depression, the family was forced to move to Grants Pass to be near other family, with the hope of finding work. Della attended Ft Vannoy Grade School, Dimick Grade School, Jerome Prairie Grade School, and finally Grants Pass High School. In 1935 she met Eugene (Gene) Shorb while both were working in the hop fields, and in 1938 they were married in Grants Pass. They had three children Charles, Richard, and Cheryl. Della and Gene were happily married until his passing in 1972. In 1977 Della married Charles (Dick) Williamson and they were married until his passing in 2006. Della and Dick had many fun hunting, camping and fishing adventures over their years together. They both loved the outdoors and all that it offered. They were also avid golfers until Della’s failing eyesight and Dick’s battle with Alzheimer’s brought those times to an end.

Della loved her family very much and also loved her independence. The loss of most of her eyesight to macula-degeneration took away a lot of that independence, making it necessary for her to move into assisted living in 2009 at which time she moved to Medford. Most of all, she missed the ability to drive herself places that she wanted to go. Della was a wonderful wife and mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her children and friends.

Her memberships included Redwood Country Church, Colonial Golf Course, and Laurel Hill Golf Course - Prior years

Previous years she loved to do crafts, golf, hunting, fishing and camping.

Survivors include her children, Charles Ray Shorb of Ontario, OR, Richard Leroy Shorb of Medford, OR and Cheryl Lorene Casad of Medford, OR; Step-children, Raymond Pierrepont of Chehalis, WA, Millie Lindquist of Grants Pass, OR and Charles Williamson, JR of Lowell, OR; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Eugene (Gene) Shorb in 1972 and Charles (Dick) Williamson in 2006; brothers, Joseph, Andrew, Ken, and Jay.
