Danny Weldon "Red" Thompson

Danny Weldon “Red” Thompson, age 58, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

Red was born November 3, 1952 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Willie & Lillie Marie Thompson. In the 1960s he moved to Oxnard, California and in the 1970s relocated to Grants Pass. Red was known for his artistic abilities as an oil painter and once owned an art gallery in downtown Grants Pass. He was also an avid harmonica player.

Survivors include two daughters, Dosha Thompson and Angela Stoltz-Panagakos both of Portland, Oregon; his former wife, Beth Thompson of Portland, Oregon; a brother, Wes Thompson; a sister-in law, Alice Thompson both of New Mexico; two nieces, Felice Thompson and Serena Thompson-Boyles; several great-nieces and a great-nephew; three aunts, Lucille Write, Bertha Roland, and Alice Collins; and an uncle, Herman Thompson.

A memorial service to celebrate Red’s life will be at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Applegate River Lodge, 15100 Highway 238 in Applegate. All musicians that have performed with Red are welcome to play an open session.
