Dalton George Rigby, age 91, of Grants Pass, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Three Rivers Medical Center of pneumonia.
Dalton was born March 5, 1922 in Toronto, Ontario Canada to Frank & Mary Elizabeth Rigby. He was the eldest of three children. He attended school in Toronto and was a student of accounting with the University of Toronto. On September 6, 1946 he married Frances “June” Jolly and together they had one child, Carolyn June. June died of polio in 1954. Dalton married June’s best friend and Carolyn’s Godmother, Joan Alice Lucas on July 15, 1956. Dalton and Joan along with Carolyn moved to Los Angeles, California in February 1960. Dalton worked for Rexall Drug for five years as an accountant until he became a U.S. citizen and began working for the federal government as an auditor for the DCAA located in TRW and McDonnell Douglas. His wife Joan passed away in April 1985 shortly after they both retired. Dalt then moved from Fountain Valley to Camarillo in 1985 and lived there until he moved to Horizon Village in Grants Pass in 2005 to be near his daughter and granddaughter. He had a very good sense of humor and a kind way with everyone.
Dalton loved playing piano growing up and also enjoyed playing the organ for over 25 years. His favorite was playing “boogie woogie” on the piano. He listened to Dixieland and swing music. He collected stamps and coins and watched and recorded old movies and television shows. He enjoyed tandem bicycling with Joan and bowling. He was involved with several square dancing groups when he lived in Camarillo. He was an avid card player and played chimes as a member of the Chimes Choir at Horizon Village. He loved playing Uno with his granddaughter, Alicia.
Dalton is survived by a daughter, Carolyn June Eubanks and son-in-law, John Eubanks; and a granddaughter, Alicia Eubanks.
He was preceded in death by both wives, June and Joan; a brother, Stanley Frank Rigby; a sister, Joyce; and parents, Frank and Mary.
No services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
