Dallas L. Bruce, age 86, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at his home.

Dallas Leon Bruce was born February 22, 1934 in Huntington, West Virginia to Leonard Clarence Bruce and Viola May (Chandler). Dallas was raised in Huntington until the children moved with their mother to Southern California. In 1955, he started a long career with Southern California Gas Co in Los Angeles, California. While working fulltime in the oil fields, he took correspondence classes earning his degrees in engineering and computer science. His hard work in school and on the job resulted in many promotions and he became the computer systems supervisor and retired at age 55.

On October 20, 1955 in Santa Ana, California, he married the former Virginia May (Allie Pauley) and the couple had three children. Virginia died March 2, 2003. In June 2004 he married Mary I. Marcuerquiaga and they divorced January 2011. He later married Sue Whitehead and she died March 26, 2018.

Dallas understood the importance of community and looking out for senior citizens and children. He volunteered his time as an Ombudsman in nursing and foster home, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children), and court appointed guardian for seniors. In his younger years he coached and managed Little League teams.

He had many hobbies throughout his life such as: chess, collecting stamps and coins, camping, cruises, long car rides and family get-togethers.

Dallas is survived by his three children, Sandra Villa of Grants Pass, David Bruce of Fontana, California, and Daniel Bruce of Lyons, Colorado; stepson Jeff Whitehead of Grants Pass; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

A private family gathering will be held. Interment will be at Scenic Hills Memorial Park in Ashland.
