Charles Albert Marchant Jr. (Chuck), age 83, of Grants Pass died
Thursday, December 5, 2019, in Grants Pass, Oregon.
Chuck was born November 30, 1936, in his home in Aitkin County,
Minnesota. In the early 1940s, his family moved out west and settled
in Kerby, Oregon. His graduating class of 1954 was the first to attend
Illinois Valley High School all four years.
He briefly attended SOC in Ashland, and spent some time working in
Seattle. He returned to the Rogue Valley, where he met Sharon Lee
Walsh and married on July 11, 1959, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
They started their family in Medford, Oregon, with the birth of their
son, Brent, and then moved to Eugene, Oregon, where they added their
daughter, Alice, and son, Phillip. The family moved back to Grants
Pass in 1969; and ten years later added one more son, Ryan.
Chuck worked with his brother, Myron, for many years at Pat’s TV and
enjoyed making sales and service calls out in the community, even on
Superbowl Sunday.
He was passionate about baseball; playing it, coaching his sons
and watching it on TV. Another passion was bowling. He attended
numerous tournaments throughout the West and was blessed and stressed
to record two perfect games at Caveman Bowl. His family was also very
important to him and he always found time to support and attend his
children’s events. His church family was very influential in his life
as he was confirmed, was married, and became an elder at St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church.
When Chuck reached a point when he could no longer live
independently, he played out his final innings at Home on the Rogue in
Grants Pass. The family would like to extend their deepest
appreciation for the tender care and thoughtfulness during his time
there. Also, a heartfelt thank you to the Providence Hospice Team.
Chuck is survived by his four children: son, Brent and Kim
Marchant; daughter, Alice and Michael Romick; and son, Ryan and Brook
Marchant of Grants Pass, Oregon; son, Phil and Kelley Marchant of
Milwaukie, Oregon; brother, Myron Marchant of Coos Bay, Oregon; and
nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Marchant in 1999; and
two brothers.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 27, 2019, at 1
p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 865 NW 5th St., Grants Pass,
Oregon 97526.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either the Sharon Marchant
Achievement Award c/o the RCC Foundation; the Providence
Hospice Team; or the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church LWML.
