Christine Teachout Wallace, age 73, of Grants Pass, died September 14, 2022 at her home.
She was born Christine Elaine Teachout on August 31, 1949 in San Mateo, California to Darrell Teachout and Juanita (Volkerts) Teachout. She grew up and graduated from high school in San Mateo. In 1967, at the age of 18, she moved to Santa Rosa, California and worked as a waitress. In 1973, Chris moved to Healdsburg, California and married William Gerard. In 1990 they moved to Grants Pass from Healdsburg, California and the couple divorced in 1993.
Chris’ son was born in 1983 and daughter in 1985; in 2006 Chris married Kirk Wallace and moved to Camas, Washington where they lived until 2008 when Kirk retired and they returned to Grants Pass. Since 1973 Chris owned multiple rentals in California and Oregon; until 2016 when all but one had been sold.
Chris was a natural athlete, being active mostly in slow pitch softball. She was able to hit the ball out of the park. In 2004, at the age of 55, she played senior women's softball, touring coast to coast, playing eight to nine tournaments every year. She also played with the Grants Pass Relics recreational league since 2000. She had the reputation as being the cleanup batter, able to hit to the fence on a regular basis. She is proud to claim hitting a hole-in-one during a golfing tournament as well.
When Chris' children were in school, she actively helped the school in various activities and projects.
Chris is survived by her husband Kirk Wallace of Grants Pass, Oregon; children Lucas Gerard of Santa Monica, California, and Ashley Gerard of Grants Pass, Oregon; brothers Tom Teachout of Lincoln, California, and Steven Teachout of Palm Springs, California; and granddaughter Violette Gerard of Santa Monica, California.
Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass with Hull & Hull Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
