Charles Owen Myers Jr, age 84, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center.
A graveside service with military honors was held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Charles was born October 26, 1930 in Pasadena, California to Charles & Dorothy Myers. Shortly after, the family moved to Santa Barbara where Charles was raised. In 1949 he graduated from high school and began working for the local bank. In January 1952 he was drafted into the United States Army and in October 1952 was shipped to Korea. He was immediately assigned to a machine gun squad where he served on the front lines until March of 1953 and then rotated home in December 1953. At that time, he returned to Santa Barbara and the bank where he quickly rose to assistant manager. In 1969 he married Florence and in 1978 they moved to Grants Pass. After a few years with Reg Ward Realty he signed on with SOFCU in the collection department and soon was promoted to collections manager. In December 1995 he retired and volunteered to serve on SOFCU’s supervisory committee.
Charles was a writer, painter and gardener. He loved to listen to beautiful music and took such pride in his family and community.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Myers of Grants Pass, Oregon; a sister, Virginia Myers of Goleta, California; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Phyllis Mantle in 2006.
