Charles Jerry Sarmento, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 89, surrounded by loved ones on June 13, 2022, in Yreka, California. Jerry was born to Natalie Abreu and William C. Sarmento in Koloa, Kauai, on May 14, 1933. He spent his young years in Kauai and later moved to California. Jerry served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1957, as a Rifleman, earning the Sharp[1]shooter proficiency badge. Jerry and Sharon Brazille married in 1968, and raised five wonderful children; Chuck Sarmento, Christine Sarmento, Vicky LaTulip, Eric Sarmento and Nalonnie Duncan. They were usually found spending quality time with family. In 2006, Jerry became a devoted husband to Dorothy Hagan, marrying in Brookings, Oregon.
Over the years, he worked various jobs including Mill work, BLM, and Wildland Firefighter. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Las Vegas Raiders, San Francisco Giants, and California Bears. He loved Western’s, and was a pro at plush toy claw machines. His joy was catching up with his children, hearing what his grandchildren were up to, and taking trips. Many people experienced his sweet demeanor, and easygoing nature, telling jokes and sometimes brutal honesty.
Jerry was preceded by his parents; brother, John Gordon Sarmento; and grandson, Kayden Gandy. He is survived by his sister, LaVerne Green; five children; nine of his grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
