Charles “Chuck” Emory Whitewolf
In the early morning hours on March 21, 2014, Chuck passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass, Oregon. Chuck was 76 years old.
Chuck Whitewolf was born in Long Beach, California on February 17, 1938. He was the second eldest child of Nila Marie Williams and John Diaz.
Chuck graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1956. After high school Chuck attended Biola University in Los Angles, California, where he studied music. He was the soloist in the university choir and the tenor in a gospel quartet. During the summer Chuck traveled with the Columbia Concert Series until a serious illness forced him to leave the group.
Chuck moved to Yosemite National Park where he worked at the Wawona Hotel. Chuck was an accomplish artist and many of his paintings and drawings depicted the beauty of the park such as Half Dome and many of the spectacular waterfalls. Chuck also enjoyed painting the wildlife that roamed the park.
After many years at Yosemite National Park, Chuck moved to Portland, Oregon where he worked at the Hilton Hotel until 1987 when moved back to Grants Pass, Oregon to be closer to his mother and family. In 1990, Chuck moved to Glendale, Oregon where he lived until his death.
Chuck enjoyed painting, reading, collecting antiques and spending time with his family.
Chuck is survived by his brothers John Diaz, Michael Norvell and Richard Perry, sisters Mary Anne Tinoco, Judi Crider, Phyllis Gregory, Teena Marshall and Juanita Stace, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Nila Williams and John Diaz, his sister Katherine Diaz and his nephew Gerald “Lil Jerry” Smith.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on April 1, 2014 at Hull & Hull Funeral Home, 612 NW A Street, Grants Pass, Oregon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Rogue Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 951, Grants Pass, Oregon, 97528.
