Carl Walter Alleman

Long time Selma resident, Carl Walter Alleman, age 93, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at his home.

A private service was held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 in Cave Junction, Oregon with Pastor Dan Robinson officiating.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m., May 25, 2013 at his ranch in Selma, Oregon.

Illinois Valley Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Alleman was born May 24, 1919 in Los Angeles, California to Howard & Bernice Alleman. In 1939 he signed on as a Merchant Marine and served during World War II from 1944 to 1945. After his honorable discharge, following in his father’s footsteps as a foundry man, he started his own business in his back yard. The “Alcast Foundry” in Redondo Beach, California was born which he owned and operated for 35 years before selling out in 1981 to move to Selma.

He was involved in auto racing from 1950 to 1978 as owner of Midget, Indy and Sprint cars. In 1973 he purchased his first race horse named “Chi-Cheng”, who went on to become the matriarch of his racing stock.

Carl was past member of Southern Oregon Horse Racing Association, Lions Club, Legends of Ascot, American Merchant Marine Veterans, California Racing Association, and Civilian Conservation Corps. He owned mining claims in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness and for the last 10 years was a foster parent to 21 children.

He enjoyed reading to the children; spending time with family and friends; driving to breakfast every morning; Fox News; practical joking; and taking care of the ranch.

Carl is survived by his wife of 21 years, Raney Alleman of Selma, Oregon; three sons David Alleman and Braden Wendover both of Selma, Oregon and Larry “Smokey” Alleman of Atascadero, California; three daughters, Jeri Alleman of Grants Pass, Oregon, Irena Meriano of Olivehurst, California, and Audrey Beavert of Mill Creek, Washington; a sister, Mae Cathcart of Sun City, California; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Snell; his parents, Howard & Bernice Alleman and former wives, Eloise Tullius and Yvonne Donna Alleman.
